Tim Sears (MA) vs Mark Viera (ME) in the 4-way super-match

Tim Sears (MA) vs Mark Viera (ME) in the 4-way super-match

It was a long but fun day, with five members of Team Maine competing.  Mark Viera pulled his ass off in the 4-way 154-lb super-match.  Although he did not take first, he had some wars with rivals Tim Sears and Kris Mikels.  Props to Mark for being the first ever Mainer to be in a super-match.  He went on to take 2nd-place in the 154-lb open class after pulling the super-match, and also took 3rd-place in the left 154-lb class.  John Cervantes finished in 3rd-place in the right 198-lb open class.  With only a few months of real training under his belt, he should already have the attention of the top pullers in this class.  Greg Curatola pulled well in the Masters Right Unlimited class but ultimately fell to past World Champions Ron Klemba and Badger Drewes.  Anthony Curatola finished in 3rd-place in the Novice 198-lb class, and may have been higher if he hadn’t fouled out in one of his earlier matches.  I (Kurt Howgate) was happy with my results, finishing in 1st-place in the left 242-lb class and ultimately finished the day undefeated and winning the left overall title.   A nagging injury in my right-arm kept me from competing right-handed.  All in all, a successful trip to CT!  Check out the pics below the full results:

  • While watching the Tim Sears and Mark Viera match, did anyone else think that it appeared as though Tim’s elbow was off the pad towards the end of the match? I’m not trying to take anything away from Tim Sears..I think he’s a great armwrestler. A rematch between them would be great to see!

  • I was impressed with the way Mark V pulled. I didn’t think he stood a chance.

Kurt’s left was unstoppable. Left is gay though

  • Mark V. did look good, very strong. Congrats on your win. Kurt has been looking very strong left handed for awhile now. Keep up the good work Team Maine.
